Women Who Inspire Us

International Women’s Day is an annual event to celebrate the accomplishments females have made and to put a spotlight on efforts to work towards equal rights. Well-known activist Gloria Steinem once said, “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”

Here at Full Funnel, we are inspired by many women (and men). Here are just a few of the women who we are thinking about this Women’s Day:

Our Web Developer, David Saunders, finds Marie Curie inspirational. He recognized her tireless research in and support of physics, chemistry and medicine, even at the expense of her own health, which led to many advances in those fields during and after her lifetime.

“Nothing in life is to be feared; it is only to be understood.” – Marie Curie

Jane Goodall is amazing in her own right. Nicole Basham, our Digital Marketing Coordinator, finds her remarkable because of her ongoing commitment to inspiring us to appreciate the importance of protecting our planet’s resources.

“The least I can do is speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves.” – Jane Goodall

Our Digital Marketing Strategist Gloria Walker has a girl crush on Senator Elizabeth Warren. The former academic turned junior member from Massachusetts has emerged as an outspoken advocate for liberal causes.

I’m a woman, and I’m going to have trouble backing off on that. I am what I am. I’ll go out and talk to people about what’s happening to their families, and when I do that, I’m a mother. I’m a grandmother.” – Sen. Elizabeth Warren

Shonda Rhimes is a woman that our Content Marketing Intern, Alyssa Vega, looks up to. Alyssa is grateful that Ms. Rhimes stands up for diversity and representation on TV and inspires women to follow their dreams.

“Most of the women I saw on TV didn’t seem like people I actually knew. They felt like ideas of what women are.” – Shonda Rhimes

Our Maintenance Manager, Jessica Canales, appreciates J.K. Rowling. Jess finds Ms. Rowling inspiring because she helps encourage kids everywhere to read and uses her wealth and influence to fight social inequality.

“We do not need magic to transform our world. We carry all of the power we need inside ourselves already.” – J.K. Rowling

Another noteworthy female is Sigourney Weaver. Digital Programs Coordinator James Stoney Burks notes that she broke barriers to become the first female action hero. In doing so, Weaver proved that women could carry the lead role in a genre formerly dominated by men.

“When I look around the world, I don’t see too many damsels in distress. If they’re a damsel in distress, they’re manipulating some guy to help them.” – Sigourney Weaver

Serena Williams won her first Grand Slam in 1999 and her last one about a month ago. Our Founder and CMO Joe Pickerill shared a little-known fact: she speaks multiple languages and is constantly challenging herself outside of tennis.

“The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another. We should raise each other up. Make sure you’re very courageous: be strong, be extremely kind, and above all be humble.” – Serena Williams

Last, but certainly not least, our Digital Marketing Specialist Juan Reyes chose his mom as someone who inspires him. Juan said, “My mother is the kindest person I’ve ever met.”
